Ironing Board Cover, 2012

Working for weeks on making a Victorian corset.

Meanwhile, there was a beginning sewing class in the studio. Time to recover the ironing board before students arrived! Pieced together odds and ends to make the cover. A drawstring (cord) was encased in a channel on the underside and heave-ho, tied!

Project: Age 13

Visiting parents in hometown of Pittsburgh. Came across embroidered jeans (made at age 13).

Had to sew. Worked on the dining room table, with space to spread out and a large windowed scene of winter-- snow and sky, sun brightened bare branched trees. Such a luxury for a big city girl, the space and the view!

Slow Style

Slow Style is an ongoing project by Sarah Kate Beaumont who since 2008 has designed and crafted every piece of her wardrobe. She has not purchased clothing since the project began.

Combining art and craftsmanship Beaumont’s project embraces individual style and sustainability. It seeks to empower others to question assumptions of consumerism with its inherent cycle of acquisition and disposal, and as an alternative, to explore self-reliance in our shared ecosystem.
